Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas and the Open Southern Border

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been in office about eighteen months and in that time period according to the non-partisan Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR); 5.5 million illegal immigrants have crossed our southern border.1 If you protest that that number is suspect because it is provided by an immigration reform group then what about the numbers “4.7 million encounters, 1.3 million got-aways” over the same period over the same border revealed by the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Homeland Security.2 Clearly, the Homeland is not secure under Secretary Mayorkas’ tenure.

To give you some perspective, there were about 2 million illegal immigrants during the whole four year period of President Trump’s administration.3 In fact, the Committee on Homeland Security went on to report that “more people have come into this country than all of the 8 years of Barack Obama’s Presidency and all 4 years of the Trump Presidency combined.” Hidden in Mayorkas’ millions of illegals are uncounted numbers of drug mules, criminals and would-be murderers on the terrorist watch list.

In the report of the March 2023 Hearing cited above, the Committee went on to discuss this question about Mayorkas’ performance at the southern border: is it a matter of incompetence or willful subversion of immigration law? Is this dismal security a result of someone in a job that he is incapable of performing or is this a matter of “Failure by Design?” Coincidentally, “Failure by Design” is the title from the Committee’s report and is the conclusion the report reaches.

Whether it is a matter of incompetence or failure by design…which certainly is willful subversion of immigration law…Secretary Mayorkas and the immigration policy he has practiced need to be changed, and changed immediately. In August of 2021 as the subject of House Resolution 582, Rep. Pat Fallon, accused Mayorkas of “high crimes and misdemeanors” and sought his impeachment as homeland security secretary. The resolution was taken under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee.

In June of this year (2023) Representative Clay Higgins also introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas citing “his failure to secure the southern border, dereliction of duty, and wanton disregard for his Constitutional oath.”4 It, too, is under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee.

It is our view that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to keep the Homeland secure and must be removed from office as soon as possible. What do you think? Here are links to the two House resolutions to impeach Mayorkas…read them for yourself.
