The border construction is one of great controversy. Many believe that the wall was a waste of energy, resources, and money. Before taking office there was 654 miles of barrier along the border which was made up of 354 miles of barriers to stop pedestrians and 300 miles of anti-vehicle fencing. President Trump has changed his view of what he wants to be the basis of the wall construction. Originally he wanted concrete, and in December of 2018 he posted on twitter a picture of a “steel slat barrier”. In 2018 there was around 400,000 people that illegally migrated into the United States, while 700,000 overstayed their visas Canadians being the highest group of over stayers according to DHS figures followed by Mexicans. In March of 2019 alone there was over 100,000 apprehensions at the southwest border. The flood of illegal immigration could be attributed to the perceived change in legislation.
