Meanwhile In Europe: Leaders See Terrorist Danger in the Flood of Refugees

In an ironic turn of events, several European governments are warning of the danger of terrorism arising as a result of refugees from the Middle East stemming from the war in Gaza.1 Terror plots have recently been thwarted in several European countries including Germany, Italy and Sweden. The warnings are ironic because frequently over the past decade, countries including Germany were highly critical of the US government’s treatment of refugees.2

Since December of 2023 there have been arrests of armed groups in Austria and Bosnia among refugees from Syria and Afghanistan with “…photographs of Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe on some of their cell phones.”3 European security bodies have noticed an increase in threats of terror “originating” from Iran and its clients.4

According to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), over the past two years all European countries have accepted millions of refugees and the total refugee population is projected to reach 24.9 million by the end of 2024.5 While over 5 million refugees are forecast as coming from Ukraine, the majority are fleeing from war and economic privation in the Middle East. The population of Europe is estimated to be about 750 million so this would result in about a 3.3% increase. On the other hand, the population of the US is estimated to be about 350 million. Over the same period, the UNHCR estimates that the ‘Americas’ will see an increase of 25 million refugees. The vast majority of these migrants intend to enter the United States and will result in about a 7% increase in our population.6

The recent gruesome attack in Russia that killed more than 140 reinforces the indication that terrorists are among refugees. The men committing this act of terror appear to be Islamic immigrants from Tajikistan and ISIS-K has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Biden administration has said that it warned Russia early in March that it was being targeted.7 Once again, it is ironic that over the past few years conservative pundits and news outlets have warned of the danger of terrorism here in the US from Biden’s open border immigration policies, but these warnings have been often ridiculed by Democrat political figures in the government, the press and European leaders.8 Just within the past week, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Committee on Intelligence that there is a “wide array of very dangerous threats that emanate from” the border with Mexico.9

This warning comes just after a New York Post reporter uncovered news that had been unreported by the FBI and media outlets, that a Lebanese national and member of Hezbollah, was caught crossing the border intending to go to New York and make a bomb.10 This terrorist was caught. How many terrorists are among the other estimated 140,000 illegal entries in 2024 that have not, and will not, be caught (often called ‘gotaways’)?11

It appears that warnings of terrorism here in the US, because of the irresponsible border policies of the current government, are certainly warranted. Surprise, surprise…even liberal government leaders in Europe now recognize the problem.
