๐Ÿ—ฝ NYC 2025: A Turning Point for Independents

As New York City prepares for one of its most critical mayoral elections in recent memory, the race is quickly becoming a battleground of ideologiesโ€”and missed opportunities. With frontrunners already taking shape and voter concern growing over radical platforms, there’s a clear need for stronger Independent leadership.

Now more than ever, a structured Independent Party primary could be the key to giving New Yorkers a true alternative to the extremes.

๐Ÿ” Whoโ€™s Running in 2025?

Hereโ€™s a snapshot of the top candidates and their positions in recent polls:

Candidate Party Polling Average (July 2025)
Zohran Mamdani Democratic 35โ€“41%
Andrew Cuomo Independent 24โ€“25%
Eric Adams Independent 11โ€“15%
Curtis Sliwa Republican ~14%
Jim Walden Independent ~1%

๐Ÿงญ Whatโ€™s at Stake?

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, is a self-described democratic socialist and Assembly member who recently defeated Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary. His platform includes:

  • Rent freezes for millions of tenants

  • Universal childcare

  • Free citywide bus service

  • New taxes on millionaires and corporations

  • A proposed reduction in NYPD funding

While supporters view his agenda as bold and transformative, criticsโ€”including national business leadersโ€”have called it radical and economically dangerous. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon labeled Mamdani a โ€œMarxist,โ€ and many moderates worry that his policies could alienate businesses and middle-class families.

Andrew Cuomo, now running as an Independent under the โ€œFight and Deliverโ€ banner, has strong name recognition and a more centrist approach. But without a unified Independent field, votes may splinter.

Eric Adams, the current mayor and former Democrat, also switched to an Independent campaign but has struggled to regain momentum, polling in the low teens.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Why We Need an Independent Primary

The Independent movement in NYC has long been fractured and underutilized. But in 2025, with the two major parties locked in ideological extremes, a competitive, transparent Independent primary could give voters the moderate, common-sense option theyโ€™re seeking.

Hereโ€™s what it would accomplish:

โœ… Legitimize Independent Voices

Without a primary, Independent candidates appear disorganized or reactionary. A structured process lends credibility.

โœ… Unite the Alternative Vote

Cuomo, Adams, and others are splitting the middle vote. A primary could unite moderates behind a single, stronger candidate.

โœ… Create Early Momentum

Primaries build media coverage, fundraising, and grassroots support before the general election begins.

โœ… Show True Democracy at Work

This is about more than strategyโ€”itโ€™s about giving every voter a meaningful say, beyond partisan politics.

๐Ÿง  A Call to Action for NYC Voters

At iVoteMyVote.com, we believe democracy thrives when people are informed, engaged, and empowered to make real choices. This election, we encourage all Independent and unaffiliated voters to demand a primary process and to support candidates who represent safety, balance, and smart governance.

New York deserves more than a choice between extremes.
