Over the months since President Trump has come into office, gasoline prices in the United States are falling.1 There are at least two major reasons for this and they both can be traced to Trump policy initiatives. Almost immediately after his inauguration, President Trump has become a major player in global politics. Most significantly, his policies have made important positive changes in our relationships with our allies in the Middle East.
In early May, Trump visited the Middle East and made an important and successful stop in Saudi Arabia. The outcomes of this visit include a major commitment by the Saudis to invest billions of dollars in the US, to buy billions of dollars worth of armaments and to cooperate with the US in civil nuclear development.2 But weeks before the trip he had already secured a win for us all, here in the US…the Saudis committed OPEC to increased oil production. According to AAA, the current average price of regular gasoline across the US is $3.166 a gallon.3 This is down from the Biden Administrations average price last year of $4.367 a gallon.4 The OPEC increase in the oil supply has been a major reason for the drop in prices.5 But this is not the only reason for this good news.
With his January 20 Executive Order entitled “Unleashing American Energy”, among many other important changes for US oil production and gasoline prices, President Trump required a reversal of Biden Administration policies that made it difficult for US gasoline refining companies to operate.6 As a direct result of these actions, American refiners are ramping up capacity to meet the summer gasoline demands.7 With US refining capacity increasing, we all can look forward to continued lower gasoline prices with even lower prices in the future and additional high-paying jobs that give a further boost to the economy. Also the same Executive Order bodes well for future low gas prices because President Trump reverses Biden’s ban on leasing Federal lands for oil exploration and drilling.
Ironically, President Biden and many voices in the mainstream media cried foul when US refiners reduced capacity and even closed plants due to Biden Administration refining regulations.8 With the latest revelations about Biden Administration autopen use, it is extremely possible that he didn’t even know that he had ‘signed’ executive orders that were responsible for causing the drop in US refining capacity.9 It would be an interesting coup for some journalist to find a Biden Administration ‘Deep Throat’ to reveal just how many of the Administration’s orders were actually signed by ‘President Autopen.’
In spite of the data to the contrary, many mainstream media outlets try to diminish the effects of President Trump’s policies which have led to the 2025 reductions in gasoline prices and inflation. For example, in the same ABCNews article entitled “Trump claims grocery and gas prices are falling. Experts say that’s misleading”, towards the end of it, the author reveals that oil prices have fallen by 25% since Trump took office. He also reluctantly admits that inflation has been reduced, but citing ‘experts’ and data from questionable sources, he concludes that President Trump’s policies have had no positive effect on gasoline and food prices.10
We here at I Vote My Vote urge President Trump to continue the effort to increase our US domestic oil production and refining capability. This is the single most important action that can be taken to reduce high prices across the board for all of us.
